» Adopt a Pet - How To Adopt.

Thank you for considering adoption. Our organization is always full of wonderful pets and your support allows us to continue to serve the animals of Kauai.

The companionship of a pet is rewarding emotionally and physically. It can be one of the most gratifying relationships of your life. Like any intimate relationship, it is one that requires time and nourishment.

Please be prepared to spend at least an hour in the adoption process meeting your new family member and working together with our team to identify the perfect pet that will suit your lifestyle and family. KHS has a wide variety of well-adjusted, healthy cats, dogs and rabbits of all ages and sizes available at the shelter just west of Puhi.

The normal adoption fee is $60 and includes a $300 value in services. Dogs are tested for heartworm, provided preventative healthcare, spayed or neutered; microchipped, temperament tested and given a free collar and leash for the trip home.

Cats are provided preventative healthcare, spayed or neutered; microchipped, temperament tested and given a free collar and carrier for the ride home. Feline viral testing is available for all cats over 5 months of age for just $15.

Rabbits and other small pets are provided a health and behavior exam, preventative healthcare, spayed or neutered and a free carrier for the trip home. The adoption fee is $25.

Some of our animals are available to go home with your right away while others need to be spayed or neutered first. If you would like some support in getting your new pet home, just ask! The adoption agreement form is available for you to read to understand our standard of care.
