Boarding Services

Frequently Asked Questions

What does it mean for Kauai Humane Society Members only?

Our pet boarding service is a benefit for KHS members. Our fee for membership is a minimum donation of $35 per calendar year.

What vaccinations or other healthcare are required for my pet to board at your facility?

All pets must be current on their routine preventative health vaccinations. In addition, all dogs must have received a Bordetella (kennel cough) vaccination and all cats must have received a FRCV Bivalent Intranasal (upper respiratory) vaccination not less than 10 days and not more than 180 days prior to boarding with us. External parasite treatment (for fleas and ticks) is required within 14 days of arrival. We do not provide these veterinary services here.

How much does it cost per day to board my pet there?

For cats, we charge $20/day. For dogs, we charge $25/day, or $20/day per dog for multiple dogs that can share the same kennel.

100% of all fees must be paid at the time of arrival. Payment may be made by cash, check or credit card (Visa, Mastercard, or American Express). Payment plans are not available. Personal checks are accepted with Kauai address only.

What if my pet is on a special diet?

We feed Nutro brand pet food both dry and canned (if requested). We will feed your pet’s special diet if you provide an adequate amount in a sealed container with feeding instructions.

What if my pet is on medication?

If your pet is on special medication, we recommend you board him or her with your private veterinarian. Your veterinarian is familiar with your pet and can closely monitor their condition and daily medication schedule.

What if my cat will only use a special type of litter?

We provide standard clay litter and clean the litter boxes twice daily. We can use your special litter if you provide an ample supply with a sealed container.

Do you have transport services available?

We are open seven days a week and not too far from the airport for convenient drop off & pickup services. If you require transport services, there will be an additional charge of $25 per trip.

What if my pet gets sick while I am away?

We will require all pet owners to register with their private veterinary clinic prior to leaving their pet with us. If the pet gets sick, we will transport them to their veterinarian for treatment at the owner’s cost.
