The Kauai Humane Society offers training courses for dogs at every age and level of ability! We offer year-round classes for dogs at the shelter in Puhi starting every six weeks and now offer quarterly six-week sessions in Hanapepe and Princeville! Please call 632-0610 for more information on any of the classes below.
Keiki TrainingClass fee: $40This class focuses on socialization & manners training for puppies 6 weeks to 4 months old. Check the Events Calendar to find out when the next class begins! Why should I take my puppy to class?Educated puppies have good manners, and are welcome members of our community. They are less likely to cause injury to themselves or others, and are not under the stress of confusion because they know what is expected of them! In this class, you will learn not only how to teach your dog appropriate behavior, but also how to redirect inappropriate behavior. You will understand how dogs learn, and how you can be the kind of leader that they will happily follow. We will review health and hygiene needs, vehicle safety, and poison prevention.
Ohana TrainingClass fee: $40Basic training for dogs over 4 months old. We will teach you how to teach your dog to walk politely, sit and lay down, come when called, and to start to resist temptation. More importantly, we will teach you how to better communicate with your dog, so that not only does your dog understand your requests and expectations, but you can understand the important things your dog is trying to tell you! Check the Events Calendar to find out when the next class begins! Why should I take my dog to class?Do you ever feel like your dog is a stranger from another country -- or maybe another planet -- and the two of you just don't understand each other? We will teach you how to read your dog's body language. We will also explore the causes of agressive or destructive behavior, and how we as pet owners often accidentally reinforce behavior that we don't want! We will help you understand how your dog's brain works, and how you can become a great teacher. You will learn the four C's of good dog training: clarity, consistency, conditioning and cuddles!
Ohana Hou!Class fee: $45Fun with agility and some off-lead work will take you and your dog to the next step! Pre-requisites: dogs should have had basic training and need to be able to sit and down on request and walk on lead. Check the Events Calendar to find out when the next class begins! Why should I take my dog to class?Because it's fun! Sure, your dog has the basic commands down cold, but now you both need a new challenge. Many dogs need a lot of action and play in their lives to prevent boredom and destructive behavior -- and this is a great way to deepen the bond you already share!
Ohana Hou! Class ReunionClass fee: FREEAnyone who has previously taken Ohana Hou! is invited to come during graduation day of the Ohana Hou! course and play on the agility equipment! Check the Events Calendar to find out when the next class reunion takes place! |
