Outstanding Keiki:
Ling Mui Apples for the Homeless Pets

Chiefess Kamakahelei Middle School Jump Start group voted and decided they wanted to raise money to donate to the Kauai Humane Society’s Spay/Neuter and Adopt-a-Pet programs. They came up with a unique way to get the message across and project complete. First they sold Ling Mui apples and peanut butter sandwiches to their friends during lunchtime. Through the efforts of those sales, they raised almost $300 for Kauai’s homeless pets! Then they decided they wanted to spread the word to the public. The group made signs and waved them on the highway for an hour on April 30th. One student said, "If we could get a quarter for every horn that honked, we could be raising thousands of dollars for the homeless pets!"

Kauai Humane Society thanks these ingenious young adults for their sincere assistance in helping Kauai’s animals!

Critter Camp

This fun and instructive two session program uses classroom activities, individual group projects, arts and crafts, guest speakers and creative projects to teach children about care and their humane responsibilities towards animals. A large part of the daily curriculum will include hands on interaction of the Humane Society shelter animals, particularly daily training of our shelter dogs and socializing our cats. We will explore various ways animals communicate and behave both in the wild and in our homes. Studies will include how our daily actions can impact our fragile island.

The enrollment for Critter camp is only $150.00 per child with full and partial scholarships available. Space is limited and will come on a first come, first served basis. Check the calendar of events to see when the next class starts, fill out the registration form and come join in on the fun!

Tours and Presentations

Kauai Humane Society's Humane Education Department is constantly creating new educational programs utilizing hands-on demonstrations, lectures, and other activities to inspire and encourage students' awareness regarding animal welfare issues. The focus is on compassion, responsibility, respect, overpopulation, safety, and careers with animals.

Presentations can easily be incorporated into current curriculum and are specifically designed to accommodate the Hawaii Content and Performance Standards for career and life skills, math, science, language arts social studies, and fine arts.

To ensure participation of your program or event, please schedule early. Once your reservation has been processed, you will receive written confirmation.
