Spay/Neuter & ID Programs
Protect Your Pet --
It's The Right Thing To Do!
Kauai has too many homeless pets. Now more convenient, discounted services are available island-wide.
Kauai Humane Society is partnering with the local veterinary community to increase the number of animals identified and sterilized. By working together, we hope to significantly reduce the number of homeless and lost pets on Kauai.
Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the Kauai County Council and private donations from caring community members.
On behalf of the animals, THANK YOU!
Why spay/neuter?
Spaying or neutering your pet virtually eliminates the chance of breast or prostate cancer when they get older.
Pets will be less likely to roam and will stay home.
Most important, they won’t produce more homeless pets!
What is a microchip?
A microchip is a permanent form of identification and never falls off. It is a small glass bead about the size of a rice grain and is safely and easily inserted underneath the skin between the pet’s shoulders.
As long as your current address and phone number are registered with the Kauai Humane Society, your pet can be quickly and safely returned home if ever lost. The one-time cost of $5 provides a lifetime of protection.
The state dog license law establishes dog ownership and has been in effect in Hawaii for over 100 years. The cost is $1.10 per year.
Hundreds of pets are lost monthly on Kauai and many are never reclaimed by their owners. Providing I.D. will help insure a safe trip home for your beloved pet.
Be part of the solution and protect your pet’s health,
spay/neuter and I.D. your pet today!
At the Kauai Humane Society:
FREE spay/neuter services for those residents with low-fixed incomes, unemployed or who receive any form of public subsidy (food stamps, public housing, WIC funds, etc.). In addition, free services are available for those caring individuals feeding feral cats to prevent the birth of more homeless kittens.
At a private veterinary clinic:
DISCOUNT COUPONS to reduce the cost of the surgery and encourage pet owners to help reduce the number of homeless pets on Kauai.
- $60 discount for female dogs 50 lbs. or larger
- $40 discount for smaller female dogs, male dogs, and female cats
- $20 discount for male cats
All pets must be microchipped at a cost of $5 and all dogs must be licensed at a cost of $1.10 per year to participate in this program.
To schedule your pet’s spay/neuter and I.D. appointment at the Society or to pick up a discount coupon for services with your private veterinarian, call or stop by.
Animal pick-up and drop off services are available by request for those unable to drive.
