Aloha from Dr. Becky Rhoades

Aloha from Dr. Becky Since 1952, the Kauai Humane Society has reached out to those who love and share their lives with animals. As an animal welfare organization, the Society is also very much a people business; supporting and promoting the human-animal bond, educating young and old, and finding solutions to the challenges of a diverse and fast-growing community. Our mission to protect animals is driven by the simple philosophy that kindness to animals helps build a better world for all of us.

A dedicated staff daily care for healthy animals, treat sick animals, investigate a constant stream of complaints, teach classes, train dogs, and advocate for the protection of Kauai's animals. Their efforts are multiplied by dozens of volunteers, who donate over 10,000 hours of service annually. In 2001, we opened our new home in Haiku and offered the first pet-friendly emergency evacuation shelter to protect the whole family in the event of another Hurricane Iniki.

Today, the Kauai Humane Society serves as a shelter for homeless animals, a rescue operation, a State approved quarantine and private pet boarding facility, an educational and advocacy organization, a hurricane emergency shelter for the whole family, and a pet care resource center with Kauai's only off leash dog park. Our work of love is dependent on the generous hearts and hands of our members and supporters. If you are new to Kauai or just visiting, we hope you will stop by for a visit to witness Kauai's love of their animals.

With Aloha,

Dr. Becky Rhoades
